Reading Diagnostic Trouble Codes

1. Using the special tool (diagnostic trouble code check harness) ground the diagnostic test mode control terminal (terminal 1) of the data link connector.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
3 Take a reading of the diagnostic output according to the flashing of the CHECK ENGINE/MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP.
4. Repair the problem location referring to the diagnostic chart.
5. Erase the diagnostic trouble code by the following procedure.
a. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
b. After removing the battery cable from the battery terminals for 10 seconds or more reconnect the cable
c. With the engine warmed-up run it at idle for about 10 minutes.
d. Turn the ignition switch to ON and take a reading of the diagnostic output to check if a normal code is output.
