SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some vehicles may exhibit loose body side moldings due to loss of tape adhesion.
DIAGNOSIS:
Inspect the side moldings for looseness. If loose, perform the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
AR NPN 3M Double Sided Tape (3M p/n 06384)
1 MR311006 Molding Clip
AR 4318025 Silicone Rubber Adhesive Sealant
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This repair involves removing the loose molding, cleaning the double sided tape from the door and molding, drilling the rear clip hole to a larger size and reinstalling the molding with a new rear clip.
1. Remove the loose door molding by hand.
2. Clean off the remaining double sided tape from the door and molding.
3. Drill the rear molding clip hole in the door to 9.0 mm (0.354 in). Clean any burrs that may have been caused.
NOTE:
USE CAUTION WHEN DRILLING.
4. Wipe both the door and molding with isopropyl alcohol.
5. Use touch up paint and cover all exposed sheet metal caused by the drilling process.
6. Remove the rear clip from the molding and replace it with the larger clip p/n MR311006. Verify that the other three clips are undamaged, replace as necessary.
7. Apply silicone RTV around the cup of the new clip to improve clip seal to the door.
8. Apply new tape to the body molding where the original tape was applied.
9. Attach the molding to the body and apply hand pressure to the entire molding to insure proper clip retention and tape adhesion.
