NOTE:
THIS INFORMATION APPLIES TO ALL WHEEL DRIVE (AWD) TALONS BUILT PRIOR TO NOV. 11, 1997 (MDH1111XX).

DISCUSSION:

PARTS/EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:

AR(1) 04778570 Shrink Tube

AR NPN Rosin Core Solder

1 NPN Soldering Iron

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves cutting, splicing and soldering a wire in the data link connector.

1. Remove the 16 way data link connector from its mounting bracket.

2. Following service manual procedures, remove pin 8 (yellow/red) from the connector. Cut the female terminal from the wire and strip 13 mm (1/2 in.) of insulation off the end of the wire.

3. Remove pin 7 (pink) from the data link connector. Make a center splice approximately 26 mm (1 in.) behind the female terminal. Remove 13 mm (1/2 in.) of insulation.

4. Wrap the yellow/red wire around the center splice of the pink wire (pin 7). Solder the splice with rosin core solder (Figure 1).

5. Slide a piece of shrink tube p/n 04778570 over the splice and heat until it is shrunk and glue flows from both ends.

6. Insert pin 7 back in its original location within the insulator.

7. Reinstall the data link connector to its bracket.
