MESSAGE CENTER-DISTANCE TO EMPTY DISPLAYS THREE DASHES

ISSUE
Some 2004 Explorer 4Dr/Mountaineer vehicles equipped with the 4.0L flex fuel engine, may display three (3) dashes (---) in the distance to empty (DTE) display.
ACTION
Three dashes are displayed when the PCM is measuring the ethanol content in the fuel, after refueling. If the dashes display within 10 miles of refueling, no repair is needed. Refer to message center operation in the Driver Controls section of the owner guide. If the dashes continue to display, or display at any other time, service by replacing the instrument cluster as described in Workshop Manual Section 413-00.
