Attachment III - Technical Information
OVERVIEWThis program involves installing a new label onto the degas bottle indicating a revised cold fill level and, if necessary, adjusting the coolant level to the new cold fill specification.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Clean the degas bottle in the area just forward of the MINIMAX markings. Ensure the area is clean and dry before proceeding.
2. Peel the backing off the label and affix the label to the degas bottle as follows:
^ The right edge of label must be 2-3 mm forward of the MINIMAX markings.
^ The top right corner of the label must be in contact with the bottom of the seam flange.
^ The label must be level (parallel to the ground).
See Figure 1.
3. WARNING: Never remove the pressure relief cap while the engine is operating or when the cooling system is hot. Failure to follow these instructions can result in damage to the cooling system or engine or result in personal injury. To avoid having scalding hot coolant or steam blow out of the degas bottle when removing the pressure relief cap, wait until the engine has cooled, then wrap a thick cloth around the pressure relief cap and turn it slowly. Step back while the pressure is released from the cooling system. When certain all the pressure has been released, (still with a cloth) turn and remove the pressure relief cap. Failure to follow these instructions can result in personal injury.
CAUTION:
The engine and cooling system must be cold to properly adjust coolant level.
CAUTION:
The removed coolant must be recycled or disposed of according to all state and local ordinances.
Check the coolant level and, if necessary, remove coolant (using a commercially available suction gun or other suitable device) from the degas bottle to bring the coolant level to the proper cold fill range as indicated by the new label. Up to 750 ml (approximately 1.5 pints) may need to be removed.
