FORD:

This article supersedes TSB 06-24-2 to update the title to include lack of A/C cooling.
ISSUE
Some 2004-2006 E-Series 350/450 vehicles built on or before 9/16/2006 and equipped with a 6.0L diesel engine may experience A/C Compressor failure.
ACTION
If A/C diagnosis leads to A/C Compressor replacement continue with this TSB.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Replace A/C Compressor per current Workshop Manual, Section 412-03.
NOTE
A/C BELT IS NOT REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE, ONLY FROM THE A/C COMPRESSOR PULLEY.
NOTE
A/C COMPRESSOR IS REMOVED FROM BOTTOM OF VEHICLE.
2. To improve system integrity, change the refrigerant charge level.
a. Vehicles with front only A/C - Change refrigerant charge to 32 oz. (factory charge was 40 oz.) and change the lubricant level to 11 oz. (factory level was 9 oz.).
b. Vehicles with Ford factory installed auxiliary A/C, change the refrigerant charge level to 54 oz. (factory charge was 60 oz.) and do not change the lubricant level (13 oz. factory level).
NOTE
FOR SHUTTLE BUSSES OR OTHER MODIFIED VEHICLES WITH A 2ND A/C AFTERMARKET COMPRESSOR, USE ONLY THE "FRONT ONLY SYSTEM" 32 OZ. CHARGE.
For aftermarket rear system capacity, refer to the under hood charge label provided by the manufacturer. With a permanent marker, update the refrigerant and lubricant charge shown on the vehicle service label to indicate the revised charge.
NOTE
IF A/C WORK HAS BEEN PERFORMED PREVIOUSLY ON THIS VEHICLE MAKE SURE PREVIOUS TECHNICIANS HAVE NOT REPLACED THE ORIGINAL BLACK ORIFICE TUBE WITH ANY OTHER COLOR ORIFICE TUBE. BLACK IS THE REQUIRED TUBE.
3. Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) to the latest calibration using IDS release B39.15 and higher or B40.2 and higher. Calibration files may also be obtained at the website.
