EXHAUST SMOKE AND/OR SMELL,
HARSH TRANSMISSION SHIFTS - 6.0L

FORD:
2005 Excursion
2005-2006 E-Series, F-Super Duty

This article supersedes TSB 05-25-4 to update the vehicle build dates involved.

ISSUE
Some 2005-2006 F-Super Duty and E-Series built before 12/5/2005, and 2005 Excursion vehicles built before 1/10/2005 equipped with the 6.0L engine, may exhibit any of the following:

^ Exhaust smoke while operating in elevated idle operation/PTO, charge protect, or cold idle kicker mode

^ Harsh 3-2 grade load braking downshifts in Tow/Haul mode due to shift initiating on boost pressure

^ Shift busyness in Tow/Haul mode

^ Shift busyness

^ Late 5-6 shift in Tow Haul mode

^ Harsh 5-2 downshift

ACTION
Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) to the latest calibration using WDS release B39.15 and higher or B40.2 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the B40 CD. Calibration files may also be obtained at the website.

NOTE
ALSO INCLUDED IN THIS CALIBRATION ARE DIAGNOSTIC IMPROVEMENTS FOR P2287 (ICP SENSOR INTERMITTENT CIRCUIT FAULT), AND P0470 (EBP SENSOR) FOR 2005 MY ONLY.
