Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Warning Devices

WARNING DEVICES

The warning chimes are designed to provide the driver with audible warnings that act as reminders and supplemental alerts to visual instrument cluster indications. The deviation from this strategy is the air bag warning chime, which is used to alert the driver that the primary alerting system (warning indicator) does not operate. The instrument cluster (IC) controls all warning chimes based on messages received from external modules.

The warning device system consists of the following:
- Instrument cluster (IC)
- Safety belt buckle switch (part of the safety belt buckle)
- Key-in-ignition warning switch (part of the ignition switch)
- Door ajar switch
- Liftgate ajar switch
- SJB

The following chimes are controlled by the instrument cluster (IC):
- Safety belt warning (as commanded by the restraints control module [RCM])
- Air bag warning
- Key-in-ignition
- Turn signal left on
- Door ajar
- Headlamps on
- Message center
- Parking brake applied
- Belt-Minder(R) (as commanded by the RCM)

Audible signals are also provided to confirm operation of the following vehicle systems:
- Turn signal
- Hazard signal
