FOAM SEAL SLIDING OUT BETWEEN INSTRUMENT
PANEL AND WINDSHIELD

ISSUE
Some 2007-2008 Edge and MKX vehicles may experience the foam seal sliding out from between the instrument panel (IP) and the windshield. This is due to the adhesive on the foam seal releasing in warmer ambient temperatures. To correct this condition it will be necessary to replace the foam seal.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove the windshield from the vehicle. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-11.
NOTE
BE CAREFUL NOT TO DAMAGE THE WINDSHIELD DURING THE REMOVAL PROCESS.
2. Remove the remaining old foam seal from the instrument panel (IP) by using a plastic scraper.
NOTE
EXTREME CARE MUST BE TAKEN WHEN USING THE PLASTIC SCRAPER SO AS NOT TO DAMAGE THE IP.
3. Clean any glue residue from the IP sur[ace where the new seal will be installed using a 50/50 mixture of water and denatured alcohol.
4. Once the surface of the IP is clean and dry, prepare the new foam seal by removing the protective backing tape.
NOTE
REMOVE ONLY ABOUT 6" (15.2 CM) OF THE PROTECTIVE TAPE AT A TIME DURING THE INSTALLATION PROCESS. DO NOT REMOVE ALL THE PROTECTIVE TAPE AT ONCE OR CONTAMINATION TO THE ADHESIVE WILL RESULT.
5. Starting at the passenger side of the vehicle, make sure to overlap the foam seal around the corner of the IP in the area of the A-Pillar by about 1.18-1.5" (30-40 mm). (Figure 1)
6. Apply the remaining length of the foam seal along the forward most edge of the IP following the ungrained portion of the IP and making sure that force is applied evenly along the entire length of the IP. At the driver's side of the IP, wrap the remaining foam seal around corner and press firmly into place. (Figure 2)
7. Reinstall the windshield and interior trim. Refer to WSM, Section 501-11.
