Test AD: Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Reset
PINPOINT TEST AD: POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) RESETFlow Chart:
NOTE: The PCM reset occurs when the PCM momentarily reboots or is turned off and on while the engine is operating. If the condition occurs a single time, the engine momentarily stumbles and the PCM goes through a normal ignition on cycle, including turning the glow plug lamp and glow plugs on, and attempts to validate the accelerator pedal position. If the pedal is not at the idle position when this concern occurs, pedal authority is not allowed by the PCM until the accelerator pedal is released and the engine returns to idle.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- loose, damaged or corroded connections
- harness circuits: VPWR and PWRGND
PCM Connector
PCM Connector:
-----------------------------------
AD1 : CHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
- Access and record any DTCs
- Record the freeze frame data
- Clear the DTCs.
- Carry out the KOEO and KOER self-test. Quick Test Description
- Are any DTCs present?
----------------------------------
AD2 : CHECK THE VPWR CIRCUITS FOR VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- PCM connector disconnected.
- Ignition ON, engine OFF.
- Measure the voltage between:
- Check for loose connections. Check for damaged pins or corrosion. Wiggle the harness while taking the measurements.
- Are the voltages greater than 10.5 V?
----------------------------------
AD3 : CHECK THE PWRGND CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Measure the resistance between:
- Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
