Pinpoint Test O: The Voice Guidance Is Inoperative/Does Not Operate Correctly
Normal Operation - All Audio Systems Except THX(R) Sound
The voice-assisted route guidance is broadcast through the front speakers. The voice guidance volume can be adjusted using the settings on the Audio Control Module (ACM).
THX(R) Sound
The voice-assisted route guidance is broadcast through the instrument panel speaker. The volume can be adjusted using the settings on the ACM. The ACM sends the voice guidance audio signals to the audio Digital Signal Processing (DSP) module through a dedicated pair of circuits.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Incorrect voice guidance setting
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Audio DSP module (THX(R) only)
- ACM
PINPOINT TEST O: THE VOICE GUIDANCE IS INOPERATIVE/DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY
-------------------------------------------------
O1 CHECK THE VOICE GUIDANCE SETTING
- Adjust the voice volume to approximately 50%. Refer to the Owner's Literature.
- Set a destination and start the route using the navigation controls. Refer to the Owner's Literature.
- Observe the voice guidance.
- Does the voice guidance operate correctly?
Yes
The concern was caused by an incorrect customer setting. INSTRUCT the customer in the correct use of the voice guidance feature.
No
GO to O2.
-------------------------------------------------
O2 CHECK THE SPEAKER OUTPUT
- Carry out the speaker walk test. Refer to Audio Control Module (ACM) Self-Diagnostic Mode Audio Control Module (ACM) Self-Diagnostic Mode.
- Do the front speakers (except THX(R) sound) or instrument panel speaker (THX(R) sound) operate correctly?
Yes
For vehicles with THX(R) sound, GO to O3.
For all others, GO to O6.
No
For vehicles with THX(R) sound, Go To Pinpoint Test C. Pinpoint Test C: Poor Quality/Distorted/No Sound From One Or More Speakers (Not All Speakers) - THX(R) Audio System
For Navigator, Go To Pinpoint Test K. Pinpoint Test K: Poor Quality/Distorted/No Sound From One Or More Speakers (Not All Speakers) - Navigation Without THX(R) Sound
-------------------------------------------------
O3 CHECK THE NAVIGATION AUDIO SIGNAL TO THE AUDIO DSP MODULE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Audio DSP Module C4348a.
- While adjusting the voice volume setting up and down (refer to the Owner's Literature), measure the AC voltage between the audio DSP module C4348a-6, circuit VME07 (WH), harness side and the audio DSP module C4348a-16, circuit RME07 (WH/BN), harness side.
- Is a fluctuating AC voltage present each time the voice volume setting is adjusted?
Yes
GO to O7.
No
GO to O4.
-------------------------------------------------
O4 CHECK THE NAVIGATION AUDIO SIGNALS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: ACM C240a.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between the audio DSP module C4348a-6, circuit VME07 (WH), harness side and ground; and between the audio DSP module C4348a-16, circuit RME07 (WH/BN), harness side and ground.
- Is any voltage present?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to O5.
-------------------------------------------------
O5 CHECK THE NAVIGATION AUDIO SIGNALS FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Measure the resistance between the audio DSP module C4348a-6, circuit VME07 (WH), harness side and the ACM C240a-2, circuit VME07 (WH), harness side; and between the audio DSP module C4348a-6, circuit VME07 (WH), harness side and ground.
- Measure the resistance between the audio DSP module C4348a-16, circuit RME07 (WH/BN), harness side and the ACM C240a-14, circuit RME07 (WH/BN), harness side; and between the audio DSP module C4348a-16, circuit RME07 (WH/BN), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the audio DSP module and the ACM, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the audio DSP module and ground?
Yes
GO to O6.
No
REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
-------------------------------------------------
O6 CHECK FOR CORRECT ACM OPERATION
- Connect: Audio DSP Module C4348a.
- Disconnect all the ACM connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the ACM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new ACM. REFER to Audio Control Module (ACM) Audio Control Module (ACM). TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
-------------------------------------------------
O7 CHECK FOR CORRECT AUDIO DSP MODULE OPERATION
- Disconnect all the audio DSP module connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the audio DSP module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new audio DSP module. REFER to Audio Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Module Audio Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Module. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
