HOWL OR GROWL NOISE FROM REAR WHEEL HUB
AND BEARING ASSEMBLY

This article supersedes TSB 10-2-9 to update the vehicle model years, Service Procedure and Part List.
ISSUE
Some 2007-2010 Edge and MKX vehicles may exhibit a growl or howl type noise coming from the rear wheel hub and bearing area(s).
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Perform NVH diagnosis and confirm noise. Refer Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 100-04. Does the noise originate from one of the rear wheel hub and bearing assemblies?
a. Yes - Proceed with Step 2.
b. No - This article does not apply. Refer to WSM, Section 100-04 for normal diagnostics.
2. Replace the suspect rear wheel hub and bearing assembly with new service part. Refer to WSM, Section 204-02.
a. The latest level service replacement bearing can be identified by a depression located on the bearing flange. (Figure 1)
