Warning Chimes

Warning Chimes

NOTE: The Smart Junction Box (SJB) is also known as the Generic Electronic Module (GEM).

The warning chimes are designed to provide the driver with an audible warning that acts as a supplemental alert. The only deviation from this strategy is the air bag warning chime which is used to alert the driver that the primary alerting system (warning indicator) does not operate. The Instrument Cluster (IC) controls all warning chimes based on messages received from external modules. The purpose of the chime function is to draw the driver's attention to the IC or message center to view an informational indicator, warning indicator, a warning message, or simply to remind the driver of something such as a key left in the ignition or headlamps left on.

The warning device system consists of the following:

- IC
- Safety belt switch (part of the safety belt buckle)
- Key-in-ignition switch (part of the ignition switch)
- Door ajar switch
- Liftgate ajar switch
- Liftgate glass ajar switch
- SJB

The following chimes are controlled by the instrument cluster:

- Air bag
- Door and liftgate/glass ajar
- Overspeed warning (gulf coast countries only)
- Headlamps on
- Key-in-ignition
- Message center new warning (except park brake)
- Park brake warning
- Safety belt/Belt-Minder(R)
- Turn signal on

An audible tick-tock signal is also provided to indicate operation of the following systems:

- Turn signal
- Hazard signal
