Information and Entertainment System

Audio Line-Up

The following audio systems are available:

- Base
- AM/FM single CD Audio Control Module (ACM)
- Four speakers

- Audiophile
- AM/FM 6-CD changer ACM
- Four speakers plus subwoofer

- Navigation
- Navigation ACM
- Audiophile sound system (4 speakers plus subwoofer)

All audio systems include the following features:

- Speed sensitive volume
- Accessory delay
- MP3 capability
- Audio input jack

The following options are available:

- Satellite radio
- SYNC system
- Family entertainment system

Antenna - AM/FM, Satellite Radio, and Global Positioning System (GPS)

The vehicle is equipped with a fixed mast AM/FM antenna mounted on the right front fender. The AM/FM antenna cable has 2 parts. The AM/FM antenna upper cable is included as part of the antenna base. The AM/FM lead-in cable connects the ACM to the upper cable. The 2 cables connect behind the glove compartment.

The satellite radio antenna (if equipped) consists of a satellite radio antenna cable and a roof-mounted satellite radio antenna. For vehicles with satellite audio and navigation, a combination satellite audio/Global Positioning System (GPS) antenna is utilized, as well as a 2-piece satellite radio antenna cable to connect the satellite radio antenna to the ACM.

Speakers

All vehicles are equipped with 4 speakers mounted in the doors. The subwoofer is mounted behind the rear seat (Explorer Sport Trac), or behind the RH rear quarter trim panel (Explorer, Mountaineer).

Navigation System

The navigation system consists of the following:

- Navigation ACM
- GPS antenna (integral to the satellite radio antenna)
- Satellite radio/GPS splitter cable (located behind the ACM)
- Microphone (located in the auto-dimming interior mirror)

The ACM controls the operation of the navigation system and the audio system. The system uses a GPS antenna, a vehicle speed input, and other sensor information to accurately establish the vehicle position.

Family Entertainment System

The family entertainment system consists of the following:

- Rear Entertainment Module (RETM) (mounted to the headliner)
- A/V ports for connecting a gaming system
- 2 wireless headphones
- A wireless remote control

SYNC System

The SYNC system consists of the following:

- Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM), located in the floor console
- SYNC-specific steering wheel controls
- Microphone (located in the auto-dimming interior mirror)
- Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable and port (located in the center console)
- Audio input jack (located in the center console)

SYNC is a hands-free communications and entertainment system that allows the following interactions:

- Send and receive phone calls via a Bluetooth-enabled phone
- Send and receive text messages via a Bluetooth-enabled phone
- Connect media devices (such as an iPod(R) or USB flash device) in order to play audio files
- Play media files via a Bluetooth-enabled audio device

Not all features are available with every phone.

Satellite Audio

The satellite audio system is comprised of the following:

- Satellite Digital Audio Receiver System (SDARS) module, located behind the glove compartment (vehicles without navigation)
- ACM (vehicles with navigation)
- Satellite radio antenna cable
- Satellite radio antenna

For vehicles with navigation, the satellite radio receiver is built-in to the ACM.
