Pinpoint Test H: The Satellite Radio Is Inoperative/Does Not Operate Correctly - Vehicles Without Navigation

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 130, Audio System/Navigation for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number

Normal Operation

Digital signals are received by the satellite radio antenna and sent through the satellite radio antenna cable to the Satellite Digital Audio Receiver System (SDARS) module, where the signals are converted to analog. The digital audio signals are converted to analog and sent to the appropriate module, depending on vehicle configuration.

When a satellite radio subscription is activated, the Electronic Serial Number (ESN) of the SDARS module is associated with the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). As a result, the SDARS module cannot be swapped from one vehicle to another.

If there is an open in the satellite radio antenna circuit, there is no satellite audio. The audio system display indicates a satellite antenna concern when the audio system is operated in satellite radio mode. To diagnose an open in the satellite radio antenna circuit, Go To Pinpoint Test B. Pinpoint Test B: Poor Reception/Poor Sound Quality/No Sound - Satellite Radio

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Subscription status
- SDARS module

PINPOINT TEST H: THE SATELLITE RADIO IS INOPERATIVE/DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY

NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

-------------------------------------------------
H1 VERIFY THE AUDIO SYSTEM OPERATION

- Operate the audio system in radio tuner (AM/FM) mode.
- Does the audio system operate correctly?

Yes
GO to H2.

No
GO to Symptom Chart to diagnose the audio system concern. Symptom Chart - General Audio System

-------------------------------------------------
H2 VERIFY AN ACTIVE SUBSCRIPTION

- Operate the audio system in satellite radio mode and observe the audio system display.
- Does the display read CALL SIRIUS?

Yes
The subscription has expired. INFORM the customer to contact Sirius to re-activate the subscription.

No
If the display indicates a satellite antenna fault, Go To Pinpoint Test B. Pinpoint Test B: Poor Reception/Poor Sound Quality/No Sound - Satellite Radio

Otherwise, GO to H3.

-------------------------------------------------
H3 CHECK FOR SDARS MODULE DTCs

- Carry out the SDARS module self-test.
- Are any satellite audio system DTCs present?

Yes
If DTC B1031 or DTC B1032 is present, Go To Pinpoint Test B. Pinpoint Test B: Poor Reception/Poor Sound Quality/No Sound - Satellite Radio

For all other DTCs, REFER to the DTC Charts. [1][2]Diagnostic Trouble Code Descriptions

No
GO to H4.

-------------------------------------------------
H4 CHECK FOR CORRECT SDARS MODULE OPERATION

- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect the SDARS module connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the SDARS module connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new SDARS module. REFER to Satellite Digital Audio Receiver System (SDARS) Module Service and Repair.
TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
