Pinpoint Test BA: DTC U0253:00
Normal Operation
- DTC U0253:00 (Lost Communication With Accessory Protocol Interface Module: No Sub-Type Information)- sets in the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) if data messages received from the Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) are missing for 5 seconds (early build), 1 minute (late build) or more. For a complete list of all network messages, refer to Information Bus.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module)
- IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)
PINPOINT TEST BA : DTC U0253:00
BA1 VERIFY THE CUSTOMER CONCERN
- Ignition ON.
- Check the clock display.
Does the clock display operate?
Yes
The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) still booting, high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
No
GO to BA2.
BA2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK
- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.
- Carry out the network test.
Does the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) pass the network test?
Yes
GO to BA3.
No
REFER to Information Bus.
BA3 CHECK THE SYNC(R) SYSTEM
- Ignition ON.
- Verify that the SYNC(R) system is operational (turns on and off).
Is the SYNC(R) system operational?
Yes
GO to BA5.
No
GO to BA4
BA4 CARRY OUT AN APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) POWER RESET
- Ignition ON.
- Carry out an APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) power reset by disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes, then reconnecting it.
Is the SYNC(R) system operational?
Yes
The system is operating correctly at this time. CARRY OUT a SYNC(R) system master reset. REFER to the Owner's Literature. REVIEW the SYNC(R) system operation with the customer. If the concern returns when using a customer device, the fault is with the customer device.
No
REFER to Accessories and Optional Equipment.
BA5 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded DTCs from the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) self-test.
Is DTC U3003:16 or DTC U3003:17 recorded?
Yes
REFER to Accessories and Optional Equipment.
No
GO to BA6.
BA6 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded DTCs from the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) self-test.
Is DTC U3003:16 or DTC U3003:17 recorded?
Yes
For DTC U3003:16, GO to Pinpoint Test BC. Pinpoint Test BC: DTC U3003:16
For DTC U3003:17, GO to Pinpoint Test BD. Pinpoint Test BD: DTC U3003:17
No
GO to BA7.
BA7 RECHECK THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) DTCs
NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during the Programmable Module Installation (PMI) or the PMI (Programmable Module Installation) may not have been carried out.
- Clear the DTCs.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Repeat the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) self-test.
Is DTC U0253:00 still present?
Yes
GO to BA8.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
BA8 CHECK FOR DTC U0253:00 SET IN OTHER MODULES
- Clear all DTCs.
- Ignition OFF.
- Ignition ON.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self-Test.
- Retrieve the continuous memory DTCs from all modules.
Is DTC U0253:00 set in the Audio Front Control Module (ACM)?
Yes
INSTALL a new APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
No
INSTALL a new IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster). REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.
