Pinpoint Test P: The FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) Is Inoperative/Does Not Operate Correctly

Normal Operation

The Front Control/Display Interface Module (FCDIM) receives power at all times. The ignition switch position message is broadcast to the FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) by the Body Control Module (BCM) via the Infotainment Controller Area Network (I-CAN).

Information from the audio system, the climate control system, the SYNC(R) system, and the compass heading are shown on the FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) display screen.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Communication network concern

- FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module)

PINPOINT TEST P : THE FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) IS INOPERATIVE/DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY

P1 CHECK FOR SCAN TOOL COMMUNICATION WITH THE FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module)

- Ignition ON.

- Carry out the network test using the scan tool.

Does the scan tool communicate with the FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module)?

Yes
GO to P2.

No
REFER to Information Bus.

P2 OBSERVE THE FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) DISPLAY

- Turn the audio system on and observe the FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) screen.

Is the FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) display completely inoperative?

Yes
GO to P5.

No
GO to P3.

P3 CHECK FOR LOST COMMUNICATION DTCs SET IN THE FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module)

- Using the scan tool, retrieve all continuous DTCs.

Are any network DTCs (U-codes) present in the FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module)?

Yes
REFER to DTC Charts Information and Entertainment Systems.

No
GO to P4.

P4 OBSERVE THE SPECIFIC INOPERATIVE DISPLAY

- Observe the inoperative FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) display while carrying out the indicated diagnostic method as follows:

Inoperative Display Diagnostic Method Expected Results Audio system Turn the audio system on, press the AM/FM button, and adjust the volume. The FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) display updates to show the change in audio setting. Climate control system Turn the climate control system on, adjust the fan to high speed, and set the temperature to various settings. The FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) display updates to show the change in climate control setting.

Does the inoperative display confirm the expected results?

Yes
The system is operating correctly at this time. INFORM the customer on the operation of the FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) display.

No
GO to P5.

P5 CHECK FOR CORRECT FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) OPERATION

- Ignition OFF.

- Disconnect the FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) connector.

- Check for:
- corrosion

- damaged pins

- pushed-out pins


- Connect the FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) connector and make sure it seats correctly.

- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module). REFER to Front Controls/Display Interface Module (FCDIM) Front Controls/Display Interface Module (FCDIM). TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
