Pinpoint Test S: The Audio System Does Not Operate Correctly From The Front Controls Interface Module (FCIM)

Normal Operation

When a button is touched on the Front Controls Interface Module (FCIM), a signal is broadcast over the Infotainment Controller Area Network (I-CAN) to the modules in the audio system. The FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module) is also the customer interface with the HVAC module.

- DTC U2013:63 (Switch Pack: Circuit / Component Protection Time-Out)- set by the FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module) if a switch is detected as active for more than 3 seconds during the self-test, or for more than 2 minutes during normal operation. When this occurs, the FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module) disables the switch until it detects it as no longer active.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Communication network concern

- FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module)

PINPOINT TEST S : THE AUDIO SYSTEM DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY FROM THE FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module)

S1 CHECK THE FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) TOUCHSCREEN OPERATION

- Operate and observe the FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) touchscreen.

Is the FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) touchscreen inoperative or blank?

Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test O. Pinpoint Test O: The FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) Touchscreen Display Is Inoperative/Does Not Operate Correctly

No
GO to S2.

S2 VERIFY THE FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module) PASSES THE NETWORK TEST

- Ignition ON.

- Using a scan tool, perform the network test.

Does the FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module) pass the network test?

Yes
GO to S3.

No
REFER to Information Bus GO to S2, The FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module) Does Not Respond To The Scan Tool.

S3 CHECK THE FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module) BUTTON PIDs

- Using a scan tool, view the FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module) PIDs.

- NOTE: The button PIDs begin with the prefix "BTN_" and end with the indicated button. For example, PID BTN_EJECT correlates with the eject button on the FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module).

Monitor the FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module) button PIDs.

Do the PID states agree with the button presses?

Yes
GO to S5.

No
If only one PID value is incorrect or the PID value always reads one particular switch position, INSTALL a new FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module). REFER to Front Controls Interface Module (FCIM) Front Controls Interface Module (FCIM). Otherwise, GO to S4.

S4 RESET THE AUDIO SYSTEM MODULES AND RECHECK THE SYSTEM OPERATION

- Disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then reconnect it.

- Turn the infotainment system on and wait for the system to re-initialize.

- While pressing the buttons on the FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module), observe the FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module) operation.

Does the FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module) operate correctly?

Yes
The concern was resolved by resetting the audio system modules. The FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module) is operating correctly at this time.

No
GO to S5.

S5 CHECK FOR CORRECT FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module) OPERATION

- Disconnect the FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module) connector.

- Check for:
- corrosion

- damaged pins

- pushed-out pins

- Connect the FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module) connector and make sure it seats correctly.

- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module). REFER to Front Controls Interface Module (FCIM) Front Controls Interface Module (FCIM). CLEAR any DTCs present. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR any DTCs present.
