Occupant Classification Sensor - Manual Seat Track
Occupant Classification Sensor - Manual Seat Track
Removal
WARNING: Use care when handling the front passenger seat and track assembly. Dropping the assembly, placing excessive weight on or sitting on a front passenger seat that is not secured in the vehicle may result in damaged seat components. Failure to follow these instructions may result in incorrect operation of the occupant classification system (OCS) and increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
NOTE: The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the correct Restraints Control Module (RCM) fuse is removed and the ignition is ON.
NOTE: The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
All Occupant Classification System (OCS) weight sensor bolts
1. Remove the manual seat track.
2. NOTE: After marking the seat track rails, do not change the position of the seat track.
Mark the position of both seat track rails.
Inboard OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor bolt(s)
3. Remove the nut and safety belt buckle.
All OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor bolt(s)
4. NOTE: Outboard front cross brace screws shown, inboard similar.
On the side with the affected Occupant Classification System (OCS) I-bolt(s), remove the 2 front cross brace screws.
5. On the side with the affected OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor bolt(s), disengage the seat adjuster handle spring and position it aside.
6. Separate the seat adjuster handle from the affected side of the seat track rail with the OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor bolt(s).
7. NOTE: Outboard rear cross brace screws shown, inboard similar.
On the side with the affected OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor bolt(s), remove the 2 rear cross brace screws.
8. NOTE: If any OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor bolt nuts are removed, new OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor bolt nuts must be installed.
Remove and discard the 2 OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor bolt nuts from the affected side of the seat track rail with the OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor bolt(s).
9. Remove the side plate with the OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor bolt(s) from the seat track rail.
10. NOTICE: Do not overtighten the side plate with the Occupant Classification System (OCS) weight sensor bolts to the bench or table. Tighten only enough to compress the spring washer. Overtightening may damage the side plate or OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor bolts.
Using a suitable tool, clamp the side plate to a bench or table to compress the spring washer on the affected OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor bolt as shown.
11. NOTE: Note the position of the OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor bolt, spring washer and retaining clip for installation.
Remove and discard the retaining clip from the affected OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor bolt.
12. Release the clamp and remove the OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor bolt and spring washer from the side plate.
Installation
All OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor bolt(s)
1. NOTICE: Do not overtighten the side plate with the Occupant Classification System (OCS) weight sensor bolts to the bench or table. Tighten only enough to compress the spring washer. Overtightening may damage the side plate or OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor bolts.
Position the spring washer and OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor bolt in the side plate. Then clamp the side plate to a bench or table to compress the OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor bolt spring washer.
2. NOTE: Make sure the OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor bolt retaining clip is seated fully in the OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor bolt groove underneath the OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor O-ring seal.
Install the 2 new OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor bolt retaining clips in the OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor groove underneath the O-ring seal.
3. Unclamp the side plate with the installed OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor bolt from the bench or table.
4. NOTE: Slight rotational adjustment of the OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensors bolts may be necessary to install the OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor bolts and side plate to the seat track rail.
Install the side plate and OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor bolts to the seat track rail.
5. NOTE: When installing the side plate to the seat track rail, 2 new OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor nuts must be installed.
Install the 2 new OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor bolt nuts to the seat track rail.
- Tighten to 33 Nm (24 lb-ft).
6. Install the seat adjuster handle to the seat track rail.
7. Engage the seat adjuster handle spring.
8. Install the 2 rear cross brace screws.
- Tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
9. Install the 2 front cross brace screws.
- Tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
Inboard OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor bolt(s)
10. Install the nut and safety belt buckle.
- Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
All OCS (Occupant Classification System) weight sensor bolt(s)
11. Install the manual seat track.
12. Install the passenger seat and repower the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System). Do not prove out the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) at this time.
13. Carry out the System Reset procedure and prove out the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System). For additional information, refer to Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) System Reset Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) System Reset.
