INTERMITTENT LIFTGATE AJAR WARNING
DISPLAYED IN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WITH
LIFTGATE CLOSED

FORD:
2011 Edge, Expedition, Explorer, Flex

ISSUE
Some 2011 Edge, Explorer, Expedition and Flex vehicles equipped with non-powered liftgate may experience intermittent liftgate ajar warning displayed in the instrument cluster when the liftgate is closed with no diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) present.

ACTION

Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Using an IDS scan tool, check body control module (BCM) for liftgate ajar DTCs.

a. If DTCs are present, do not continue with this article. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 417-02 for normal diagnostics.

b. If DTCs are not present, proceed to Step 2.

2. Replace the liftgate latch assembly. Refer to WSM, Section 501-14 for removal and install procedures.
