NAVIGATION RADIO - POOR AUDIO SOUND QUALITY
FORD:
2011 Escape
ISSUE
Some 2011 Escape vehicles equipped with
navigation radio and built between 6/14/2010 and
1/3/2011 may exhibit poor audio sound quality.
Audio will sound muffled at all times.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Confirm the vehicle build date:
a. If the build date is before 6/14/2010 or after
1/03/2011, do not continue with this article.
Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section
415-00, for normal diagnostics.
b. If the build date is on or after 6/14/2010 and through 1/3/2011, proceed to Step 2.
2. Determine what EQ configuration is loaded:
Enter bezel diagnostics. Press and hold preset 3 and 6 together for 3 seconds. End speaker walk around test, select system info, page down and read EQ configuration part number level.
a. If the EQ configuration part number level is BL8T-14C633-AA, do not continue with this article. Refer to WSM, Section 415-00, for normal diagnostics.
b. If the EQ configuration part number level is 9L8T-14C663-AB, continue to Step 3.
3. Reprogram the audio control module (ACM) module to the latest calibration using IDS release 73.01 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2011.5 DVD. Calibration files may also be obtained at the website.
