ACTION
Follow Service Procedure steps to perform software update.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Ensure that the Integrated Diagnostic Software (IDS) release is at 74.01 or higher and then close the IDS software.
2. Vehicles that exhibit a blank/black screen symptoms follow procedure B. All other symptoms follow procedure A
Performing this procedure will erase all saved customer preferences returning the system to original default settings. On return of vehicle to customer, please instruct customers that they will need to reset preferences and pair their phone(s).
^ This procedure update will reduce blank/black screen occurrences by automatically rebooting the system if the screen remains blank after 3 minutes. This is expected system functionality with (BM) level CIP software.
^ Sirius Travel link may take up to twenty minutes or longer before all hourglasses disappear after an accessory protocol interface module (APIM) update.
Procedure A
1. Edge and MKX vehicles - skip to Step 2. Explorer vehicles - Media Hub removal is not recommended for this procedure due to limited USB cable length. A second USB cable connection can be easily accessed behind the passenger side center console trim panel for this procedure.
a. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-12. Gently pull the front of the passenger console side trim panel away from the console, allowing access to the USB cable connection.
b. Disconnect the vehicle USB cable and connect the SYNC Re-Flash kit cable and adapter Rotunda RTTP CCMSYNC-Kit or equivalent Male-A USB-to-female mini USB cable to the vehicle male USB cable.
c. If programming fails during Vehicle Interface Processor (VIP) (before being prompted to start the engine) ensure that the IDS battery indicator in the lower right hand corner is green. A red or clear/neutral indicator can indicate a low voltage condition. Check battery charger connections and settings.
2. To perform the reprogram procedure it will be necessary to follow the online version of the WSM, Section 415-00 APIM Programming - Standard selection. Update the Consumer Interface Processor (CIP) to the latest (BM) suffix level.
3. If an invalid or unsigned error is encountered during application installation on Navigation equipped vehicles, procedure C must be performed. (Figure 1)
Procedure B
1. Perform a battery disconnect following WSM, Section 414-01 for 5 minutes and then reconnect.
2. Edge and MKX vehicles - skip to Step 3. Explorer vehicles - Media Hub removal is not recommended for this procedure due to limited USB cable length. A second USB cable connection can be easily accessed behind the passenger side center console trim panel for this procedure.
a. Refer to WSM, Section 501-12. Gently pull the front of the passenger console side trim panel away from the console, allowing access to the USB cable connection.
b. Disconnect the vehicle USB cable and connect the SYNC Re-Flash kit cable and adapter Rotunda RTTP CCMSYNC-Kit or equivalent Male-A USB-to-female mini USB cable to the vehicle male USB cable.
c. If programming fails during Vehicle Interface Processor (VIP) (before being prompted to start the engine), ensure that the IDS battery indicator in the lower right hand corner is green. A red or clear/neutral indicator can indicate a low voltage condition. Check battery charger connections and settings.
3. To perform the reprogram procedure it will be necessary to follow the online version of the WSM, Section 415-00 APIM Programming - Standard selection. Update the Consumer Interface Processor (CIP) to the latest (BM) suffix level. If programming fails, proceed to Step 5. If the update was successful, no further actions are necessary.
4. Vehicles that exhibit blank/black screen may fail during CIP communication. If reprogramming was unsuccessful, the APIM is in an unrecoverable software state and will require APIM replacement. Follow WSM, Section 415-00 APIM Removal and Installation to replace the APIM. Order a replacement APIM using the online 1878 form.
5. If an Invalid or Unsigned error is encountered during application installation on Navigation equipped vehicles, procedure C must be performed. (Figure 1)
Procedure C
1. This procedure only applies to Navigation equipped vehicles that exhibit invalid or unsigned error during application installation. (Figure 1)
2. The application labeled (App to correct modules that report ESN) must be installed first and can not be installed at the same time as the Navigation application. Installation sequence is critical for Navigation to function. Navigation can not be added to Non-Navigation vehicles.
3. Follow the online version of the WSM, Section 415-00 APIM Programming - Standard selection, however manual application selection will be required in Step 4.
4. After performing a (Read SYNC), Standard selection. Manually select the application labeled (App to correct modules that report ESN). This will correct the unsigned/invalid error in the APIM. Follow scan tool on-screen prompts.
a. When a Read SYNC is performed and the VIP/CIP are already at the latest level, the programming process will skip to application installation, reducing programming time. Selecting the Force CIP box is not necessary or recommended and would only increase programming time.
5. Repeat Step's 3 and 4 and select only the Navigation application for re-installation.
