FRONT DOOR BLACKOUT TAPE WRINKLED OR
BUBBLED - BUILT ON OR BEFORE 7/12/2011

FORD:
2011 Explorer

ISSUE
Some 2011 Explorer vehicles built on or before
7/12/2011 may exhibit wrinkled or bubbled blackout
tape on the front door near the exterior mirrors.

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure below to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove the exterior mirror. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-09.





2. Add one (1) nylon washer to the forward mounting hole on the outside of the door. (Figure 1)

3. Partially install exterior mirror and secure the three (3) fasteners.

4. Check for clearance between the exterior mirror housing and the blackout tape with a feeler gauge, paper, or flashlight.

NOTE
CLEARANCE SHOULD BE NO GREATER THAN 1.0 mm (.047").

a. If clearance exists, proceed to Step 5.

b. If clearance does not exist, repeat Steps 2-4. No more than two (2) washers should be required.

5. Service the door blackout tape if necessary.

6. Install exterior mirror. Refer to WSM, Section 501-09.
