Pinpoint Test E: Temperature Control/Function Selector is Inoperative

Normal Operation

The discharge temperature and airflow mode is determined by the temperature selector and the function selector.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Temperature selector/cable assembly
- Function switch/cable assembly
- Airflow mode door/temperature blend door actuating assembly
- Temperature or airflow mode door


PINPOINT TEST E: TEMPERATURE CONTROL/FUNCTION SELECTOR IS INOPERATIVE

E1 CHECK TEMPERATURE SELECTOR OR FUNCTION SELECTOR OPERATION


- Rotate the temperature selector switch from full COOL to full WARM or rotate the function selector switch from PANEL to DEFROST.
- Does the selector switch fully rotate?

Yes
GO to E3.

No
GO to E2.

E2 CHECK TEMPERATURE SELECTOR CABLE OR FUNCTION SELECTOR CABLE FOR A BINDING CONDITION


- Disconnect the temperature selector or function selector cable assembly from the airflow mode door/temperature blend door actuating assembly.
- Rotate the temperature selector switch from full COOL to full WARM or rotate the function selector switch from PANEL to DEFROST.
- Does the selector switch fully rotate?

Yes
GO to E4.

No
INSTALL a new temperature or function switch/cable assembly. TEST the system for normal operation.

E3 CHECK TEMPERATURE OR FUNCTION CABLE OPERATION


- Disconnect the temperature selector or function selector cable assembly from the airflow mode door/temperature blend door actuating assembly.
- While observing the end of the selector cable, rotate the temperature selector switch from full COOL to full WARM or rotate the function selector switch from PANEL to DEFROST.




- Does the end of the selector cable rotate with the selector switch rotation?

Yes
GO to E4.

No
INSTALL a new temperature or function switch/cable assembly. TEST the system for normal operation.

E4 CHECK TEMPERATURE OR AIRFLOW MODE OPERATION


- Remove the airflow mode door/temperature blend door actuating assembly.
- Connect the temperature selector or function selector cable assembly to the airflow mode door/temperature blend door actuating assembly.
- While observing the end of the selector cable, rotate the temperature selector switch from full COOL to full WARM or rotate the function selector switch from PANEL to DEFROST.




- Does the end of the selector cable rotate with the selector switch rotation?

Yes
REPAIR or INSTALL a new temperature or airflow mode door. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
INSTALL a new airflow mode door/temperature blend door actuating assembly. TEST the system for normal operation.
