Pinpoint Test K: Easy Entry/Easy Exit is Inoperative/Does Not Operate Correctly

Normal Operation

The Driver Seat Module (DSM) receives a key out command from the Body Control Module (BCM) and a transmission range selection of park from the PCM, both coming over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) communication network and powers the memory driver seat rearward about 2 inches.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Easy entry/easy exit feature is not enabled

- Wiring, terminals or connectors

- Missing Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) status information:
- ignition status

- gear selector position

- Key-in-ignition warning switch

- DSM (Driver Seat Module)

PINPOINT TEST K : EASY ENTRY/EASY EXIT IS INOPERATIVE/DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY

NOTE: Verify good battery condition before diagnosing the memory seat system. Poor battery condition may interfere with memory seat operation, even if vehicle starting is possible.

NOTE: The transmission gear selector must be in park for the easy entry/easy exit feature to function.

NOTE: Make sure all memory seat DTC and symptom based faults are corrected before proceeding with easy entry/easy exit diagnosis. Verify the PID(s) states agree with the ignition switch and transmission gear selector in all positions before proceeding with easy entry/easy exit diagnosis.

K1 CHECK THE DRIVER POWER SEAT OPERATION

- Ignition ON.

- Check the message center to verify the easy entry/easy exit feature is enabled.
- The easy entry/easy exit feature can be enabled/disabled using a scan tool in module programming. Refer to the Owner's Literature or Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators for information on the message center.

- Using the seat control switch, verify the driver power seat operates fully forward and rearward.

- Place the memory seat and memory mirrors in central travel positions.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self Test- DSM (Driver Seat Module).

Are any DSM (Driver Seat Module) DTCs retrieved?

Yes
REFER to the Driver Seat Module (DSM) DTC Chart Seats.

No
If disabled, ENABLE the easy entry/easy exit feature with the message center. REFER to the Owner's Literature or Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators. TEST the system for normal operation. If OK, INSTRUCT the customer on correct system operation.

If easy entry/easy exit is enabled and the seat does not move horizontally from the seat control switch, GO to Pinpoint Test I Pinpoint Test I: The Memory Seat Is Inoperative/Does Not Operate Correctly - Does Not Operate Horizontally/Vertically/Recline.

Otherwise, GO to K2.

K2 CHECK THE PCM TRANSMISSION RANGE (TR) PID STATES

- Ignition ON.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: DataLogger- PCM PID: TR.

- Operate the transmission gear selector in all positions while monitoring the PCM PID TR states.

Do the PID states agree with the selected positions?

Yes
GO to K3.

No
To diagnose a transmission gear selector (PRNDL) status concern, REFER to Automatic Transmission/Transaxle &/or Transmission Control Systems.

K3 CHECK THE DSM (Driver Seat Module) FOR CORRECT IGNITION SWITCH POSITION (IGN_SW) STATES

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: DataLogger- DSM (Driver Seat Module) PID: IGN_SW.

- Operate the ignition while monitoring the IGN_SW PID states.
- For vehicles equipped with an ignition lock cylinder and key, insert and remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder.

- For vehicles equipped with passive entry/passive start, push the ignition button ON and OFF.

Do the PID states agree?

Yes
INSTALL a new DSM (Driver Seat Module). REPEAT the self-test.

No
For vehicles equipped with an ignition lock cylinder and key, REFER to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.

For vehicles equipped with passive entry/passive start, REFER to Steering Column.
