P06A0
Climate Control System
Pinpoint Test U: DTC P06A0
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 55, Automatic Climate Control System for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.
Normal Operation
The externally controlled variable displacement compressor is electronically controlled by the PCM. The PCM pulse width modulates the ground to the externally controlled variable displacement compressor to change the displacement of the A/C compressor.
- DTC P06A0 (Variable A/C Compressor Control Circuit)- The PCM senses greater than expected voltage on the sensor feedback circuit, indicating a short to voltage or an open circuit or sensor.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Fuse
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- A/C compressor
- PCM
PINPOINT TEST U : DTC P06A0
U1 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE A/C COMPRESSOR
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: A/C Compressor C1110.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between the A/C compressor C1110-2, circuit CBB70 (YE/BU), harness side and ground.
Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
GO to U2.
No
VERIFY the Body Control Module (BCM) fuse 70 (10A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR circuit CBB70 (YE/BU). If not OK, REFER to the Wiring Diagrams to identify the possible causes of the circuit short Electrical Diagrams. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
U2 CHECK THE A/C COMPRESSOR DISPLACEMENT CONTROL VALVE CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: PCM C1381E.
- Measure the resistance between the A/C compressor C1110-1, circuit VE462 (WH/BN), harness side and ground.
Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
GO to U3.
No
REPAIR circuit VE462 (WH/BN).
U3 CHECK THE A/C COMPRESSOR DISPLACEMENT CONTROL VALVE CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO POWER
- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between the A/C compressor C1110-1, circuit VE462 (WH/BN), harness side and ground.
Is any voltage present?
Yes
REPAIR circuit VE462 (WH/BN).
No
GO to U4.
U4 CHECK THE A/C COMPRESSOR DISPLACEMENT CONTROL VALVE CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Measure the resistance between the A/C compressor C1110-1, circuit VE462 (WH/BN), harness side and the PCM C1381E-66, circuit VE462 (WH).
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new A/C compressor. TEST the system for normal operation. If the DTC returns, GO to U5.
No
REPAIR circuit VE462 (WH/BN).
U5 CHECK THE PCM CONNECTION
- Disconnect all the PCM connectors.
- Inspect the PCM component and harness side connectors for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out terminals
- Connect and correctly seat all the PCM connectors.
- Clear the DTCs.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self-Test- PCM.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new PCM. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
