Pinpoint Test AX: DTC U0111

Normal Operation

- DTC U0111 (Lost Communication With Battery Energy Control Module)- sets in continuous memory in the Instrument Cluster (IC) if data messages received from the Battery Control Module - High Voltage Traction Battery (BCM-HVTB) over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) are missing. For a complete list of all network messages, refer to Information Bus.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- BCM-HVTB (Battery Control Module - High Voltage Traction Battery)

- IC (Instrument Cluster)

PINPOINT TEST AX : DTC U0111

AX1 VERIFY THE CUSTOMER CONCERN

- Ignition ON.

- Verify that there is an observable symptom present.

Is an observable symptom present?

Yes
GO to AX2.

No
The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.

AX2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK

- Ignition ON.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.

- Carry out the network test.

Does the BCM-HVTB (Battery Control Module - High Voltage Traction Battery) pass the network test?

Yes
GO to AX3.

No
REFER to Information Bus.

AX3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC (Instrument Cluster) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded IC (Instrument Cluster) DTCs from the self-test.

Is DTC B1317 or DTC B1318 recorded?

Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test AS Pinpoint Test AS: DTC B1317 (B1317) or GO to Pinpoint Test AT Pinpoint Test AT: DTC B1318 (B1318).

No
GO to AX4.

AX4 RECHECK THE IC (Instrument Cluster) DTCs

NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during the Programmable Module Installation (PMI) or the PMI (Programmable Module Installation) may not have been carried out.

- Clear the DTCs. Repeat the IC (Instrument Cluster) self-test.

Is DTC U0111 still present?

Yes
GO to AX5.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.

AX5 CHECK FOR DTC U0111 SET IN OTHER MODULES

- Ignition ON.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self-Test.

- Retrieve the continuous memory DTCs from all modules.

Is DTC U0111 set in the Transmission Control Module (TCM) module?

Yes
INSTALL a new BCM-HVTB (Battery Control Module - High Voltage Traction Battery). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

No
INSTALL a new IC (Instrument Cluster). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
