Power Liftgate

Pinpoint Test I: DTC B117C - Latch Centering Switch Invalid

Refer to Wiring Diagrams Set 109, Power Liftgate/Retractable Running Board for schematic and connector information. Electrical Diagrams

Normal Operation

The Liftgate/Trunk Module (LTM) monitors the sector gear open switch, circuit CPR67 (VT) and sector gear close switch, CPR68 (YE) to determine the sector gear position.

- DTC B117C (Latch Centering Switch Invalid)- This DTC will set when the LTM (Liftgate/Trunk Module) detects the sector gear open/close switch(es) are not in the correct state at the beginning of self-test.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Power liftgate latch

- LTM (Liftgate/Trunk Module)

- Wiring, terminals or connectors

PINPOINT TEST I : DTC B117C - LATCH CENTERING SWITCH INVALID

NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) from the Flex Probe Kit when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

I1 CHECK THE SECTOR GEAR SWITCH CIRCUITS

NOTE: If any other power liftgate related DTCs are present, diagnose those first before proceeding with this pinpoint test. Refer to the Liftgate/Trunk Module (LTM) DTC Chart. Trunk / Liftgate

- Disconnect: Latch/Unlatch Assembly C4339.

- Ignition ON.

- Measure the voltage between power liftgate latch/unlatch assembly C4339-6, circuit CPR67 (VT), harness side and ground; and between C4339-4, circuit CPR68 (YE), harness side and ground.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts for both measurements?

Yes
GO to I4.

No
GO to I2.

I2 CHECK CIRCUITS CPR67 (VT) AND CPR68 (YE) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

- Ignition OFF.

- Disconnect: LTM (Liftgate/Trunk Module) C4174A.

- Measure the resistance between LTM (Liftgate/Trunk Module) C4174A-26, circuit CPR67 (VT), harness side and ground; and between LTM (Liftgate/Trunk Module) C4174A-15, circuit CPR68 (YE), harness side and ground.

Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?

Yes
GO to I3.

No
REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the LTM (Liftgate/Trunk Module) self-test.

I3 CHECK CIRCUITS CPR67 (VT) AND CPR68 (YE) FOR AN OPEN

- Measure the resistance between LTM (Liftgate/Trunk Module) C4174A, harness side and power liftgate latch/unlatch assembly C4339, harness side using the following chart:

LTM (Liftgate/Trunk Module) Circuit Power Liftgate Latch/Unlatch Assembly C4174A-26 CPR67 (VT) C4339-6 C4174A-15 CPR68 (YE) C4339-4

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms for both measurements?

Yes
CHECK the LTM (Liftgate/Trunk Module) connector for bent or corroded connections on the component side and harness side. REPAIR as necessary.

CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the LTM (Liftgate/Trunk Module) self-test.

IF DTC B117C returns, INSTALL a new LTM (Liftgate/Trunk Module). REFER to Liftgate/Trunk Module (LTM) . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the LTM (Liftgate/Trunk Module) self-test.

No
REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the LTM (Liftgate/Trunk Module) self-test.

I4 CHECK CIRCUITS CPR67 (VT) AND CPR68 (YE) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

- Ignition OFF.

- Disconnect: LTM (Liftgate/Trunk Module) C4174A.

- Ignition ON.

- Measure the voltage between power liftgate latch/unlatch assembly C4339-6, circuit CPR67 (VT), harness side and ground; and between C4339-4, circuit CPR68 (YE), harness side and ground.

Is any voltage present for both measurements?

Yes
REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the LTM (Liftgate/Trunk Module) self-test.

No
CHECK the power liftgate latch connector for bent or corroded connections on the component side and harness side. REPAIR as necessary.

INSTALL a new power liftgate latch. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the LTM (Liftgate/Trunk Module) self-test.
