Pinpoint Test AU: DTC U0154

Normal Operation

- DTC U0154 (Lost Communication With Restraints Occupant Classification System Module (OCS (Occupant Classification System)))- sets in continuous memory if data messages received from the Occupant Classification System Module (OCSM) over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) are missing for greater than 5 seconds.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- OCSM (Occupant Classification System Module)

- Instrument Cluster (IC)

PINPOINT TEST AU : DTC U0154

AU1 VERIFY THE CUSTOMER CONCERN

- Ignition ON.

- Verify that there is an observable symptom present.

Is an observable symptom present?

Yes
GO to AU2.

No
The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.

AU2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.

- Carry out the network test.

Does the OCSM (Occupant Classification System Module) pass the network test?

Yes
GO to AU3.

No
REFER to Information Bus.

AU3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC (Instrument Cluster) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded IC (Instrument Cluster) DTCs from the self-test.

Is DTC B1317 or DTC B1318 recorded?

Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test AM (B1317) or GO to Pinpoint Test AN (B1318). Pinpoint Test AM: DTC B1317 Pinpoint Test AN: DTC B1318

No
GO to AU4.

AU4 RECHECK THE IC (Instrument Cluster) DTCs

- Clear the DTCs. Repeat the IC (Instrument Cluster) self-test.

Is DTC U0154 still present?

Yes
GO to AU5.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.

AU5 CHECK FOR DTC U0154 SET IN OTHER MODULES

- Clear all DTCs.

- Ignition OFF.

- Ignition ON.

- Wait 10 seconds.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self-Test.

- Retrieve the continuous memory DTCs from all modules.

Is DTC U0154 set in the Restraints Control Module (RCM)?

Yes
INSTALL a new OCSM (Occupant Classification System Module). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

No
INSTALL a new IC (Instrument Cluster). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
