Pinpoint Test H: The Vehicle Does Not Start

Normal Operation

During each vehicle start sequence, when the key is turned to the START or ON position, the Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) transceiver reads the PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) key identification code and sends the data to the Instrument Cluster (IC).

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Starting system concern

- PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) concern

PINPOINT TEST H : THE VEHICLE DOES NOT START

H1 CHECK FOR COMMUNICATION WITH THE PCM AND THE IC (Instrument Cluster)

- Connect the scan tool.

- Ignition ON.

- Carry out the network test using the scan tool.

Does the scan tool establish communication with the PCM and the IC (Instrument Cluster)?

Yes
GO to H2.

No
REFER to Information Bus to diagnose the module that is not communicating with the scan tool.

H2 CHECK FOR IC (Instrument Cluster) DTCs

- Retrieve the IC (Instrument Cluster) continuous and on-demand DTCs.

Are any IC (Instrument Cluster) DTCs present?

Yes
REFER to DTC Charts. Antitheft and Alarm Systems

No
The no-start condition is not PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) -related. REFER to the Computers and Control Systems Information to diagnose the cause of the no-start condition.
