Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Deactivation and Reactivation
Deactivation
WARNING: Always carry or place a live air bag module with the air bag and deployment door/trim cover/tear seam pointed away from the body. Do not set a live air bag module down with the deployment door/trim cover/tear seam face down. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury in the event of an accidental deployment.
WARNING: Never probe the electrical connectors on air bag, Safety Canopy(R) or side air curtain modules. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of these modules, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.
WARNING: Never disassemble or tamper with safety belt buckle/retractor pretensioners, adaptive load limiting retractors, safety belt inflators, or probe the electrical connectors. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of the safety belt pretensioners, adaptive load limiting retractors, or safety belt inflators, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.
WARNING: Do not handle, move or change the original horizontal mounting position of the restraints control module (RCM) while the RCM is connected and the ignition switch is ON. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of the Safety Canopy(R) and cause serious personal injury or death.
NOTE: The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
1. Depower the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System). For additional information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering.
2. WARNING: Always deplete the backup power supply before repairing or installing any new front or side air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) component and before servicing, removing, installing, adjusting or striking components near the front or side impact sensors or the restraints control module (RCM). Nearby components include doors, instrument panel, console, door latches, strikers, seats and hood latches.
Refer to the Description and Operation portion of Seat Belt Systems for location of the RCM and impact sensor(s).
To deplete the backup power supply energy, disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least 1 minute. Be sure to disconnect auxiliary batteries and power supplies (if equipped).
Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.
Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute.
3. Remove the driver air bag module. For additional information, refer to Driver Air Bag Module .
4. Through the glove compartment opening, disconnect the 2 passenger air bag module electrical connectors.
5. NOTE: Passenger side shown, driver similar.
Under the passenger seat, slide and disengage the side air bag module electrical connector locking clip, release the tab and disconnect the electrical connector.
6. Under the driver seat, slide and disengage the side air bag module electrical connector locking clip, release the tab and disconnect the electrical connector.
7. Detach and position aside the D-pillar trim panels.
8. Release the pin-type retainers and position the rear portion of headliner down.
9. NOTE: LH side shown, RH similar.
Disconnect the LH side Safety Canopy(R) module electrical connector.
10. Detach and position aside the RH side D-pillar trim panel.
11. Disconnect the RH side Safety Canopy(R) module electrical connector.
12. Install the RCM (Restraints Control Module) fuse 32 (10A) to the SJB (Smart Junction Box).
13. Connect the battery ground cable.
Reactivation
1. Turn the ignition OFF.
2. Remove the RCM (Restraints Control Module) fuse 32 (10A) from the SJB (Smart Junction Box).
3. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
4. NOTE: LH side shown, RH side similar.
Connect the LH and RH side Safety Canopy(R) module electrical connectors.
5. Push the headliner up and engage the pin-type retainers.
6. Install the D-pillar trim panels.
7. NOTE: Passenger seat shown, driver similar.
Connect the seat side air bag module electrical connector, slide and engage the electrical connector locking clip.
8. Connect the seat side air bag module electrical connector, slide and engage the electrical connector locking clip.
9. Connect the 2 passenger air bag module electrical connectors.
10. Install the driver air bag module. For additional information, refer to Driver Air Bag Module .
11. Repower the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System). For additional information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering.
