Identification Codes

Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)

Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Locator





The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is a 17-digit combination of letters and numbers. The VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) is located on the top upper left of the dash. The VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) is also found on the Vehicle Identification Label (VIL) label.

If the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) plate requires replacement, authorized dealers must contact their respective regional office.










World Manufacturer Identifier (WMI)

The first 3 VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) positions are the WMI (World Manufacturer Identifier).

- NM0- Ford Motor Company, Turkey, truck.

Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) and Restraint Type

The fourth VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) position is the vehicle Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) and restraint type code.

- 7- Active safety belts (all positions), driver and front passenger air bags with driver and front passenger side restraints.

- 8- Active safety belts (all positions) with driver only front and side restraints (Postal unit).

- K- 4,001-5,000 lb GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating), active safety belts (all positions), driver and front passenger air bags with driver and front passenger side impact air bags.

- L- 5,001-6,000 lb GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating), active safety belts (all positions), driver and front passenger air bags and driver and front passenger side impact air bags.

Vehicle Line, Series and Body Type

Positions 5 through 7 indicate vehicle line, series and body type.

- S6A- Transit Connect XL, cargo van, 2 side window with 2 rear door windows.

- S6B- Transit Connect XLT, cargo van, 2 side windows and 2 rear door windows.

- S7A- Transit Connect XL, cargo van, solid side panels and solid rear doors.

- S7B- Transit Connect XLT, cargo van, solid side panels and solid rear doors.

- S7C- Transit Connect XL, cargo van, solid side panels and 2 rear door windows.

- S7D- Transit Connect XLT, cargo van, solid side panels with 2 rear door windows.

- S8A- Transit Connect XLT, solid side panels and solid rear doors (Postal unit).

- S9B- Transit Connect XLT, window van, 2 side windows and 2 rear door windows.

- S9C- Transit Connect XLT, window van, 3 side windows and 2 rear door windows (Premium package).

Engine Type

The eighth VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) position identifies the engine type, displacement and number of cylinders.

- N- Duratec- 2.0L, 4-cylinder.

- 4- 350 amp, 72 volt electric motor.

Additional engine information can be obtained from the engine tag.

Check Digit

The ninth VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) position is a government-assigned, computer-generated check digit.

Model Year

The tenth VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) position is the model year code.

- C- 2012.

Assembly Plant

The eleventh VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) position is the assembly plant code.

- T- Kocaeli Assembly Plant, Turkey.

Production Sequence Number

The last 6 VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) positions are a numeric code for the vehicle build sequence. This is also the vehicle serial and warranty number.

The serial number can also be found on the engine block, transmission and frame.

- 000001-999999.

Vehicle Identification Label (VIL)

The Vehicle Identification Label (VIL) contains the manufacturer name, the month and year of manufacture and the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). It also includes Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) and tire information.

If a vehicle requires replacement of the VIL (Vehicle Identification Label) and is 4 years old or less, an authorized dealer must submit the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) to their respective regional office. The regional office will submit a web form to the assembly plant for the replacement label. Once the label has been printed, a representative from the regional office will deliver the label to the dealer and witness installation on the vehicle. If a vehicle is more than 4 years old and requires a replacement label, the dealer must submit a request to the Department of Motor Vehicles.










Paint Code

Paint codes may be listed as a 2-part code. The first set of paint code numbers/letters indicate the vehicle primary body color. The second set of letters/numbers (if applicable) indicate a 2-tone or accent body color.

- BY- School Bus Yellow.

- D3- Torch Red.

- JH- Dark Micastone.

- NS- Noisette.

- TY- Moon Dust Silver.

- UE- Panther Black Metallic.

- UT- Avalon.

- UV- Blazer Blue.

- Z2- Frozen White.

Wheelbase Code

The applicable wheelbase code(s) Is as follows:

- 114- 2896 mm (114 in).

Interior Trim Codes

The interior trim codes are listed as a 2-part code. The first digit listed indicates the seat and fabric style. The second digit listed indicates the interior trim color.

Trim Codes

- E- Vinyl seats.

- 8- Lattice/Twill cloth seats.

Interior Trim Color Codes

- K- Dark Pewter.

Tape/Paint Codes

Tape and paint stripe codes do not apply.

Radio Codes

Available radio type codes are as follows:

- 6- AM/FM stereo (ICE feature pack 61).

- D- Radio delete.

- R- AM/FM stereo with CD player and audio jack (ICE feature pack 62).

Axle Codes

The following lists the available axle ratios:

- KD- Electric drive (no ratio).

- 39- 3.96 ratio.

Transmission Codes

The following lists available transmission types and associated codes:

- H- 1-speed electric drive.

- 2- 4-speed automatic (4F27E).

Additional transmission information can be obtained from the transmission tag.

Spring Codes

Spring codes identify both front and rear springs. The first set of characters identify the front springs. The second set of characters identify the rear springs.

Front Springs

- Base part number- 5310.

Rear Springs

- Base part number- 5560.
