Body - Chrome Top Bar On Grille Is Loose

CHROME TOP BAR LOOSE ON GRILLE-BUILT ON OR BEFORE 3/26/2012

2011-2013 Edge

ISSUE
Some 2011-2013 Edge vehicles equipped with a
3.5L or 3.7L engine and built on or before
3/26/2012 may exhibit the top chrome bar on the
grille coming loose.

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE





1. Apply 2 layers of masking tape or equivalent to the top edge of the lower radiator grille bar to protect chrome finish. (Figure 1)

2. Remove the front bumper cover. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-19.

3. With aid of an assistant, remove and set aside (as assembly) the lower radiator grille bar and bumper cover lower grille. For easier removal unclip the lower edge of the grille first. (Figure 1)

a. For vehicles equipped with license plate bracket, leave the bracket attached to the Lower Grille Bar.





4. With aid of an assistant, remove radiator grille reinforcement with trim still attached. For easier removal, first unclip the lower edge of the grille reinforcement using pocket screwdriver. (Figure 2)

5. On a padded bench, remove and set aside all trim from old radiator grille reinforcement.

a. Inspect upper radiator grille bar. Replace if damaged.

b. Remove emblem and trim ring as an assembly. Emblem does not need to be unbolted.





6. On a padded bench, install trim on new radiator grille reinforcement. Verify tabs are fully seated. (Figure 3)

7. With aid of an assistant, install (as assembly) the lower radiator grille bar and bumper cover lower grille to front bumper cover. Verify tabs are fully seated.

a. For vehicles equipped with license plate bracket, apply pressure to the upper bracket sur[ace to engage the tabs. Pressure applied to the middle of the bracket may damage the bracket.

8. With aid of an assistant, install new radiator grille reinforcement to front bumper cover. Verify tabs are fully seated.

9. Install the front bumper cover on vehicle. Refer to WSM, Section 501-19.





WARRANTY STATUS: Eligible Under Provisions Of New Vehicle Limited Warranty Coverage Warranty/ESP coverage limits/policies/prior approvals are not altered by a TSB. Warranty/ESP coverage limits are determined by the identified causal part and verified using the OASIS part coverage tool.
