EXHIBIT I - OWNER NOTIFICATION PROGRAM B38:




VEHICLES INVOLVED

Vehicles involved in this program are all 1983-model Mustang vehicles built prior to February 2, 1983, equipped with the convertible top.

TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS

Center Mounting Stud on Quarter Window Weatherseal

1. Refer to Exhibit I. Disengage the right and left header clamps.

2. Lower the quarter windows to full down position.

3. Mark the upper and lower quarter window weatherseal mounting studs at the top of the nuts before the nuts are removed. The upper and lower studs will be cut flush with the top of the nut in the next step. Remove three nuts securing the quarter window weatherseal channel to the "C" pillar rail. Remove the channel.

4. Cut the center weatherseal channel mounting stud flush with the weatherseal channel. (This stud will no longer be used to retain the channel). Cut off the part of the stud marked in Step 3 from the upper and lower studs. Remove any burrs from the stud threads with a file so that the nuts can be reinstalled.

5. Reinstall the weatherseal channel to the "C" pillar rail using the two remaining mounting studs.

6. Roll the quarter window to the full up position and check that the seal between the quarter window and the door glass is adequate. Adjust the channel if necessary to achieve a good seal.

7. Tighten the two channel mounting stud nuts to 30-35 in.lbs.

Screw Securing the Weatherstrip Retainer on the Folding Top Mechanism Center Rail

1. Refer to Exhibit I, Section View A-A. Raise top approximately half-way and prop the header. Pull top fabric upward from the side rail to locate the weatherstrip retainer screw at the rear most position of the center rail.

2. A plastic protective cap may be in place over the screw. Remove and discard the protector if it is present. Cut the screw flush with the foam seal pad. Dab black gloss paint on the cut end of the screw.

3. Perform this operation on both sides of vehicle.

4. Remove prop from header, lower top and engage the right and left header clamps.

Removal of Wheelhouse Weldment and Sheet Metal Rough Edges

1. Refer to Exhibit II. Pull back the ends of the folding top storage well fabric after prying the two frame pins from the base of the "C" pillar. Pull the pinch cord from the flange and slide the bolt cover from the side of the top retainer.

2. Pull back the black plastic shield and the foam pads to expose the metal on the top of the wheelhouse inner panel.

3. Inspect the wheelhouse area indicated by the shaded area in Exhibit II for weldment and sheet metal rough edges.

4. Flatten any sheet metal edges that could damage the top fabric and grind rough weldments smooth. Use a small hammer to avoid puncturing the wheelhouse metal.

5. Clean area of chips and grinding materials. Spray bare metal with primer.

6. Perform this operation on both sides of vehicle.

7. Reinstall foam pads and plastic shield.

8. Reinstall retainers to hold well fabric in place.
Replacement of the Convertible Top

When performing the above procedures, if your inspection reveals that the convertible top is punctured, it will be necessary to replace the top. All removed convertible tops must be retained for Service Zone Manager inspection and approval of the warranty claim Form 1863. Further, consistent with page 19, Subject 9.3, of the Warranty and Policy Manual, outside labor invoices must be retained in the dealership for at least one year following the date of Company notification of payment.
