LEAKS - WATER - CONVERTIBLE - TRUNK AREA BY DECK LID HINGES


FORD 1983 MUSTANG

To service concerns for water entering luggage compartment around deck lid hinges, a collecter and drain system was developed. Installation of this system is described in the following procedure:

Figure 6:

1. Remove the four (4) screws holding the top sling reinforcement rods to the deck lid support brace (Item 187, Figure 6).

2. Push the top sling forward and position the drain trough assembly behind the deck lid support brace and against the package tray so the trough fits the contour of the deck lid opening (Item 301-302, Figure 7).
3. Install two screws through the trough into the package tray (item 304, Figure 7).
4. Push out the rubber plugs in the bottom of the fender well behind the wheel house and discard (Figure 7).
5. Insert the drain tube from the trough into the hole in the bottom of the fender well.
6. Pull the top sling back into place and reattach the reinforcements to the deck lid support brace.
