SUBJECT: A4LD

PROBLEM: Soft 3-4 shift after rebuild.

CAUSE:
May have the intermediate and overdrive servos, and/or servo return springs mixed up.




The intermediate servo has a smaller apply area than the overdrive servo, and could give a soft 3-4 shift if installed in the overdrive servo bore.

Some A 4LD's use the same spring on both servos. However, mixing up the servo springs where different springs are used, may also give shifting complaints.




The charts show the servo return spring identifications through 1986.

The charts identify the engineering part numbers for the intermediate and overdrive servo components for all 1986 A4LD transmissions.
