TRANSMISSION - MANUAL - T50D 5-SPEED - GEAR JUMP-OUT DURING COLD WEATHER OPERATION


FORD 1984 MUSTANG SVO

Some early 1984 Mustang SVO vehicles built prior to January 31, 1984, operated during cold weather may experience transmission gear jump-out condition. This condition may be caused by the inner shift lever boot preventing full and free travel of the gear shift lever. Removal

1. Remove the four bolts attaching shift boot to floor pan.
2. Remove the two bolts attaching the shift lever to transmission.
3. Discard lower rubber boot and fiberglass sound deadener from the boot assembly (if not already removed).

Installation

1. Install the two new bolts (N803410-S2) and washers attaching the shift lever to transmission. Tighten to 31-43 N-m (23-32 lbs.ft.).

NOTE: Shift lever bolts must only be installed in one direction (ftom right side of shift lever).

2. Install the four bolts attaching the shift boot to floor pan. Tighten to 4.1-9.5 N-m (3-7 lbs.ft.).
