CHATTER REVERSE
FORD 1986 TAURUS
Some vehicles built prior to April 11, 1986, with an MTX 5-speed manual transmission may have a chatter when releasing the clutch in reverse gear. The chatter is caused by the clutch cable being pulled away from the clutch bracket on quick engagements.
Figure 17:
Suspect (short) cables are color coded green at the transmission end (see Figure 17) and should be replaced with a longer cable, color coded tan (part number E6DZ-7K553-B).
Follow instructions in the 1986 Taurus/Sable Shop Manual, Section 16-03 for cable replacement.
