M/T - MTX5 Difficulty In Shifting

Article No. 86-19-10

TRANSAXLE - MTX5 - DIFFICULTY IN SHIFTING INTO FIRST, THIRD AND FIFTH GEARS

FORD 1986 TAURUS

Figure 5:

Difficulty in shifting into first, third and fifth gears may be caused by a bent shift cable to transmission mounting bracket. This is caused by the mounting bracket contacting the sub-frame of the vehicle. To correct this, first verify that the correct clutch cable has been installed (refer to TSB 86-15-8). If the correct clutch cable has been installed, check the shift cable to transmission mounting bracket for evidence of contact with the sub-frame (refer to Figure 5). If contact has occurred, replace with a new design shift cable to transmission mounting bracket using the procedure outlined in the Taurus/Sable Shop Manual, Section 16-37-51.
