ISSUE: There may be a loss of power or clutch slippage. Burned resin odor or worn/burned clutch components may be noticed when the transaxle is removed. In addition, there may be a transaxle rattle heard when idling in neutral or on start-up in lower gears. These conditions are caused by...
^ Insufficient torque capacity of clutch components
^ Slow or light engagement of the clutch pedal with engine overspeed when shifting
^ Insufficient vibration damping of powertrain torsional vibrations by clutch components.
ACTION: Install a new clutch service kit. Refer to the Instruction Sheet in the kit for installation procedure.
The clutch service kit consists of the following items.
^ A larger (248 mm diameter) cast iron pressure plate assembly with more rotating inertia and greater heat absorption capacity
^ A larger clutch disc (248 mm diameter) with a revised damper to minimize rattle in neutral
^ A flywheel with revised bolt hole locations for the new clutch components
^ Fasteners and dowel alignment pins
