Subject: Ford Safety Recall 90S14 - 1990 Model Year Taurus Police Cars, Steel Road Wheel Replacement
Reference: Enclosed advance copy of Ford Parts and Service Division Service Recall Bulletin
We have learned that seventeen (17) 1990 Taurus police cars, sold by Ponce Ford, are involved in the subject recall. It is essential that all five road wheels on each car be replaced. Due to the nature of this concern, we request that Ponce Ford take needed corrective action even before the formal recall announcement.
Please refer to the attached Dealer Report (VIN List) showing each of the seventeen vehicles.
The advance bulletin copy contains the part number for the new wheels and technical instructions for their installation. Note: Order the parts directly from FPSD-IDO, Windsor and not from Wixom. Claims, Form 1864, can be submitted via DWE. Show wheel costs and mark-up and valve stem (local purchase) costs on the claims Form 1864. A separate claim is required for each vehicle.
Please order the wheels promptly and arrange with your customer to schedule the vehicles for wheel replacement as soon as the parts are received. We do not know if, in fact, the cars were already sold or to whom. Thus, we must rely on you to contact the owner for this service.
Note: The removed wheels are not to be returned but must be tagged with the VIN of the vehicle from which they were removed and the number of the Claim Form 1864. The wheels must then be held for inspection by your District Service Engineer and then destroyed, under his verification, by any means that will render the wheels unusable.
