This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Ford Motor Company has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1990 model year Taurus Police Cars.

Safety Defect
The steel road wheels may crack, and the wheel rim portion could separate from the wheel hub portion.

This could result in the loss of control and a vehicle crash.

Warnings
Aggressive driving, high speed pursuit and hard turning maneuvers could accelerate the condition.

Do not drive your car if any of its wheels wobble. This could be an indication of impending wheel separation.

Repairs
At no charge, your dealer will replace each of the suspect wheels on your car. The dealer will mount and balance the presently installed tires on the new wheels.

How long will it take?
The time needed for this repair is about two hours. However, due to service scheduling times, your dealer may need the car for one full working day.

Call your dealer
Call your dealer without delay. Ask for a service date and whether the replacement wheels are in stock.

If your dealer does not have the wheels in stock, they can be ordered before scheduling your service date. Parts would be expected to arrive within a week.

When you bring the car in, give the dealer this letter.

If this letter is misplaced, your dealer will still do the work, free of charge.

Has the car been sold?
If the car has been sold, please fill out enclosed prepaid postcard and mail it to us.

If the dealer doesn't make the repair promptly and without charge, you should contact the Ford Parts and Service Division Office whose address is shown in your Owner Guide booklet. You also may send a complaint to the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 400 Seventh Street, SW, Washington, DC 20590 or call the toll free Auto Safety Hotline 800-424-9393 (Washington DC area residents may call 366-0123).

We regret the inconvenience this service may cause but we want you to have the work done for your safety and satisfaction with your Ford-built car.
