Ignition Switch: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. On models equipped with airbag, disarm airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. On all models, disconnect battery ground cable and isolate cable end with electrical tape.
3. Remove steering column trim shroud. On models with tilt column, remove upper extension shroud.
4. On all models, remove electrical connector from switch, Fig. 1.
5. Rotate ignition key to (Run) position.
6. Remove two ignition switch-to-lock cylinder housing attaching screws.
7. Disengage switch from the actuator pin.
8. Reactivate airbag system.
INSTALLATION
1. Adjust switch by sliding the carrier to the switch On (Run) position.
2. Check to ensure that the ignition key lock cylinder is in the On (Run) position by rotating the key lock cylinder approximately 90 degrees from the Lock position.
3. Install switch onto the actuator pin.
4. Torque attaching screws to 50-70 inch lbs.
5. Connect electrical connector to switch.
6. Install steering column trim shroud. For tilt column only, install upper extension shroud.
7. Connect battery ground cable.
8. Check for proper operation.
9. Reactivate airbag system.
