^ STARTER - INSUFFICIENT CRANKING SPEED CREATES RICH FUEL CONDITION - SHO MODELS WITH MTX TRANSAXLE
FORD: 1992-93 TAURUS
ISSUE:
Intermittent long crank or no start may be experienced by some vehicles with no service codes indicated and the fuel pressure within specification. The condition may be the result of the starter motor cranking speed being inadequate to prevent fuel flooding with this engine calibration.
ACTION:
Check for long crank and no start conditions and, if necessary, replace the starter. Refer to the 1993 Taurus Service Manual, Page 03-06-7, for removal and installation procedures.
Check for any or all of the following conditions:
^ Intermittent long engine to run crank times (8-20 seconds) after intermediate soaks
^ Intermittent no start or long engine to run crank times after overnight soaks
^ No start or long engine to run times if a driver induced stall occurs within 0.2 miles after an overnight soak
If any of these conditions exist, replace the existing starter with a new 12 tooth starter (F3DZ-11002-B).
