Removal and Installation
REMOVAL1. Raise and support vehicle, then mark driveshaft for installation reference.
2. Disconnect driveshaft from rear axle universal joint flange, then slide driveshaft off transmission output shaft. Install extension housing seal replacer tool T61L-7657-A, or equivalent, into extension housing to prevent lubricant leakage.
3. Remove four dual converter Y pipe bolts, then pipe.
4. Remove two rear transmission support to rear engine support nuts, then bolts.
5. Support engine and transmission with transmission jack.
6. Remove two rear engine support bolt nuts.
7. Remove rear engine support bolts, then raise jack slightly and remove rear engine support.
8. Lower transmission to expose two bolts securing shift control selector lever and housing, then, using socket, remove two nuts and bolts
9. Remove shift control selector lever and housing, then disconnect wiring harness from back-up lamp switch.
10. Remove speedometer cable bolt, then speedometer drive gear from transmission.
11. Remove four transmission to flywheel housing bolts.
12. Move transmission and jack rearward until transmission input shaft clears flywheel housing. If necessary, lower engine enough to obtain clearance for transmission removal.
INSTALLATION
1. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Ensure transmission and flywheel housing mounting surfaces are free of dirt, paint and burrs.
b. Fill transmission with specified transmission fluid. Apply pipe sealant with Teflon D8AZ-19554-A or equivalent, to transmission case plug in a clockwise direction prior to installation.
c. Lower vehicle, then check shift and crossover motion for full shift engagement and smooth crossover operation.
