Brake Switch (Cruise Control): Description and Operation

PURPOSE
The Brake On/Off (BOO) switch closes when the brake pedal is depressed, which sends a signal to the powertrain control module, the anti-lock brake module, and the speed control amplifier to adjust engine operations during deacceleration, to control the anti-lock brake system, and to disengage the speed control.

The BOO switch also controls the stop lamps operation and prevents torque converter clutch operation when the brake is depressed.

The BOO switch signal is ignored by the powertrain control module if the throttle position sensor is above the closed throttle position.
