CLUTCH - VIBRATION/NOISE FELT IN CLUTCH
PEDAL WHEN LIGHTLY TOUCHING CLUTCH PEDAL

FORD:
1991-98 MUSTANG

This TSB article is being republished in its entirety to add a statement in the Action that the clutch disc and pressure plate do not need to be replaced unless signs of wear or damage are evident.

ISSUE
A vibration/noise may be felt on some vehicles when the clutch is engaged and your foot is lightly touching the clutch pedal. The vibration/noise will disappear once pressure is applied to the clutch pedal. This may be due to a reduction of grease within the throw-out bearing.

ACTION
Install a revised throw-out bearing. The revised bearing has an improved grease retention feature to help reduce the possibility of vibration/noise. The clutch disc does not need to be replaced unless there are obvious signs of damage. The pressure plate should be checked for finger height variation. If the finger height variation between the highest and lowest finger is less than 1 mm, the pressure plate should not be replaced unless there are obvious signs of damage. Refer to the appropriate Mustang Service Manual for removal and installation procedures.
