HOOD WON'T RELEASE TO SECONDARY POSITION WHEN PULLING ON INSIDE HOOD RELEASE HANDLE - VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 1/31/94

FORD:
1994 MUSTANG

ISSUE:
The hood may "stick" or "bind" or fail to move up to the secondary position when pulling on the inside hood release handle. This may be caused by binding between the hood latch and the hood striker.

ACTION:
Adjust the hood bumpers and/or the hood latch to eliminate the binding condition. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

NOTE:
PERFORM THE FOLLOWING STEPS IN ORDER, AND PROCEED TO THE NEXT STEP ONLY IF NECESSARY.

1. Raise the driver's side hood bumper located on top of the radiator support as high as possible while maintaining hood-to-fender flushness.

2. Knock out the passenger side hood latch pin and rotate the passenger side of the hood latch up 2 mm (.077").

3. Loosen the three (3) hood latch support bracket bolts and tap the bracket to the right or left to eliminate latch-to-striker interference.

4. Tighten the three (3) hood latch support bracket bolts to 10.2-13.8 N-m (8-10 lb.ft.).
