This TSB article is being republished in its entirety to correct the Warranty Status statement.

ISSUE:
The Front End Accessory Drive (FEAD) belt may not be properly aligned on the pulleys which may cause belt edge wear and/or mistracking on the backside pulleys. This may be caused by a binding FEAD belt tensioner, improperly torqued FEAD generator and air pump mounting bracket bolt or a tilted idler pulley.

ACTION:
Replace the Power Steering and A/C Idler Pulley Assembly. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove the FEAD drive belt and belt tensioner.

2. Verify the torque of the generator and air pump bracket mounting bolt. This is the bolt directly under the tensioner assembly. The correct torque specification is 70 N.m (52 lb.ft).

3. Reinstall the belt tensioner and torque the mounting bolt to 30-40 N.m (22-30 lb.ft).

4. Verify proper operation of the FEAD belt tensioner assembly. Check for binding by cycling the tensioner through its full range of operation. If binding is present, replace the FEAD Belt Tensioner Pulley (F4ZZ-6B209-A). Refer to the appropriate Mustang Service Manual, Section 03-05 for details.

5. Reinstall the FEAD belt and check the belt alignment. Install a new belt if the existing belt is damaged.

6. If, after performing Steps 1 through 5 above, the belt is still misaligned on the idler pulley, replace the power steering idler pulley bracket with a new power steering Idler Pulley Bracket (F5ZZ-3A732-AA). Refer to the appropriate Mustang Service Manual, Section 03-05 for details.
