Automatic Transmission

Crankshaft Position Sensor is mounted inside the distributor housing. A 4-vane rotor on the distributor shaft spins at camshaft speed. As the rotor passes through a magnetic Hall effect pickup switch, the 4 vanes are detected and sent to the PCM in pulse wave form. Crankshaft position is determined at 180° intervals for fuel injection timing, ignition timing, and emission control.
